Why you need CEUs in Los Angeles

Over a two-year certification period, Los Angeles CNAs need to complete 48 CEUs, with 12 hours required each year. If you don’t meet this annual CEU requirement, your certification status will be affected.

CEU Requirements for Los Angeles CNAs / HHA

​

  • CNAs have a two-year period to achieve 48 hours of in-service training or CEUs as part of their certification requirements.

  • CNAs must fulfill at least 12 hours annually from the 48 required hours in each certification period.

  • A CDPH-approved online training program, listed on our website, allows for a maximum of 24 of the required 48 hours to be completed.

  • In their certification period, HHAs need 24 training hours, with 12 hours required each year, and cannot count online CEUs toward this requirement.

Certification for CNAs is set for two birthdays, not according to two full calendar years.

​

For example:​

● Effective date: 3/20/18

● Expiration date: 5/15/20

● Birthday: 5/15/XXXX

 

This means:

● The initial certification year goes from 3/20/18 through 5/15/19.

● The certification’s second year is from May 15, 2019, until May 15, 2020.
