What is a CNA?

A Certified Nursing Assistant, or CNA, helps patients with activities of daily living and other healthcare needs under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). CNA’s are also commonly referred to as a Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Assistant (PCA), or a Nurse’s Aid.

Some individuals will use their knowledge as a CNA to bridge the gap to further their career and become an LVN or RN. Interestingly, a large number of CNAs are already in a nursing school program and use this career as a chance to learn more about the healthcare world and gain additional real-world application and knowledge. Others become a CNA in order to determine if they want to continue to the next step in their healthcare journey.

As a Nurse Assistant, you will be an important part of today’s world of health care, with knowledge and skills that are always in demand. With our comprehensive program that was designed with input from educators, caregivers, and long-term care industry representatives, we can help you become a nurse assistant and begin your career in health care.

Certified Nursing Assistant Program:

What is CNA Training?

CNA training from the LA Skills Academy NAT Program meets the California Department of Public Health’s requirements for Nurse Assistant Training in California, including 60 hours of classroom/online theory lecture and 100 hours of supervised hands-on clinical experience at a local Skilled Nursing Facility. All classes are taught by highly experienced and professional nurses with a small student to instructor ratio to provide quality training. The expectation of excellence is high within our fast-paced and focused program. We train our CNA school students to provide compassionate care for people within the healthcare system.

Through lecture, video, role-playing, hands-on skills demonstration, and clinical practice, our nursing assistant training enables students to learn procedural skills such as bathing, dressing, positioning, and vital signs. Students in our CNA school will also learn key communication techniques through life skills training including resume and interview preparation to make students ready for employment after graduation. After students graduate from the NAT Program, they are eligible to test for the California Nurse Assistant State Exam to become a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA).
