What is a CNA?

A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides essential support to patients with their daily living activities and other healthcare needs while working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). CNAs may also be known by other titles, such as Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Assistant (PCA), or Nurse's Aid.

For many in Covina, becoming a CNA serves as a stepping stone to further healthcare opportunities, such as advancing to an LVN or RN role. In fact, a significant number of CNAs are already enrolled in nursing programs, utilizing this role to deepen their understanding of the healthcare field through hands-on experience. Some individuals begin as CNAs to explore if the nursing profession is the right fit before deciding to progress to more advanced roles.

By becoming a Nurse Assistant, you will play a crucial role in healthcare, acquiring knowledge and skills that are always in high demand. Our carefully designed program, which has been shaped by feedback from educators, caregivers, and long-term care professionals, is here to guide you toward starting your healthcare career as a CNA.

Certified Nursing Assistant Program:

What is CNA Training?

The CNA training offered through the LA Skills Academy NAT Program meets all the California Department of Public Health’s criteria for Nurse Assistant Training. This includes 60 hours of theory instruction, which can be completed through classroom or online lectures, as well as 100 hours of supervised clinical experience at a local Skilled Nursing Facility. Classes are led by seasoned and professional nurses in a setting with a low student-to-instructor ratio, ensuring personalized and high-quality instruction. Our fast-paced program sets high standards for excellence, training students to provide compassionate care within the healthcare system.

Our comprehensive training in Covina utilizes lectures, videos, role-playing, hands-on skill demonstrations, and clinical experience to teach procedural skills such as bathing, dressing, positioning, and taking vital signs. Additionally, life skills training, including resume building and interview preparation, is part of the curriculum, preparing students for immediate employment upon graduation. Upon successful completion of the NAT Program, students are eligible to take the California Nurse Assistant State Exam to become a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA).
