What is a CNA?

Certified Nursing Assistants, also referred to as CNAs, play a central role in the delivery of healthcare services because of the direct care they provide to patients. Their work involves assisting with personal needs and daily activities, while always prioritising compassion, respect, and patient safety. CNAs, who may also be identified as Patient Care Assistants or Nurse’s Aides, operate under the guidance of Registered Nurses and Licensed Vocational Nurses to ensure consistent, high-quality care. They are employed in hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, rehabilitation centres, assisted living communities, and even in private homes. Since CNAs spend a significant amount of time with patients, they form trusting relationships and are recognised for providing attentive support that truly defines excellent care.

For Ventura residents, pursuing CNA certification offers an entry point into a career that is both stable and meaningful. Some individuals begin this journey with the long-term goal of advancing into Licensed Vocational Nursing or Registered Nursing, using CNA training as a stepping stone for clinical experience. Others choose the certification as a way to secure reliable employment while continuing higher education. Whatever the reason, the program delivers valuable skills that encourage immediate job opportunities as well as future career advancement.

The CNA curriculum includes both classroom instruction and clinical training under supervision. Students are taught practical skills such as supporting patient hygiene, assisting with mobility, measuring vital signs, and improving communication with healthcare professionals and patients alike. Clinical placements reinforce these lessons by enabling students to apply their knowledge directly in real healthcare settings. At the end of the program, graduates leave with the confidence, technical training, and first-hand experience required to provide compassionate and professional care in Ventura and in other communities.

Certified Nursing Assistant Program:

What is CNA Training?

The Nurse Assistant Training (NAT) program at LA Skills Academy offers Ventura residents a well-recognised pathway into healthcare. Approved by the California Department of Public Health, the program reflects the quality and compliance required for nurse assistant education. Training consists of 60 classroom hours, which may be completed online or in person, combined with 100 hours of clinical practice in a Skilled Nursing Facility. Small class sizes allow students to benefit from mentorship and individual support, enabling them to graduate with confidence and competence.

The program integrates various learning methods to suit different styles. Students gain realistic practice through lab simulations, observe instructor demonstrations, review video materials for reinforcement, and use role-play to develop interpersonal skills. Core responsibilities covered include helping patients with mobility, monitoring and recording vital signs, maintaining hygiene, and offering care with compassion and respect. Beyond the technical curriculum, students receive job preparation support with resume and interview training.
